Diana Cabeza | CV

Graduated with honours in Fine Arts from the Escuela Nacional de Bellas Artes Prilidiano Pueyrredón and from Universidad de Belgrano as an Architect in Buenos Aires. Her activities are focused on the design, production and commercialization of urban equipment through her own studio, Estudio Cabeza, and also on providing design services.

Publications
Her articles have been published in Summa and Contextos magazines in Argentina, Domus, Casabella, Abitare, Interni and The Plan in Italy; Diseño Interior, Experimenta, Diseño de la Ciudad, and Visions edited by Etsab in Spain, Interior Design and Architectural Record in the United States, and in books such as Cristina Morozzi's “Mobili Italiani Contemporanei” and catalan editor Paco Asencio's “Product Design”.

Awards
This year, she has been awarded the First Prize of the National Design Competition for all the urban elements and communitary equipment for the City of Buenos Aires. Some of her previous awards are: First Prize UNESCO/FAU in 1984 for self-sustained housing in the Puna, “Outstanding design Label” AICA International Association of Architecture Critics in 1991, Prize ICI in Design Instituto de Cooperacion Iberoamericana (Institute for Ibero-american Cooperation) in 1993, First Prize Salao Design Movelsul in three categories in Brazil in 1994.
She has also been awarded special honours by the Consejo Profesional de Arquitectura (Professional Council of Architecture) and Sociedad Central de Arquitectos (Central Society of Architects) in Buenos Aires with distinctions such as Premio CPAU/SCA in 1998 for the urban equipment in Puerto Madero, Buenos Aires, and Premio CPAU/SCA in 2000: three special honours in urban equipment awarded for her line of Utilitarian Floors, Comunitario and Rambla benches. She has also obtained Merit Diploma for Industrial Design awarded by the Konex Foundation in 2002, and the ICFF Editors Awardin the Outdoor Furniture category at the International Contemporary Furniture Fair New York in 2003.
First Prize in the design competition of the urban furnitureand equipment for the city of Buenos Aires.

Concept
She has worked on a “concept car” project for Alfa Romeo in Arese Italy in 1998, and a concept housing Project for outer space living presented in the Future Show in Bologna, Italy, in  partnership with architect Trotti, who specializes in space modules interiors for NASA, in 1999.
She has also participated in a charrette for the Treasure Coast Agency in Miami for the urban and community equipment concept for the redevelopment of the city of Margate in Florida, United States.  She developed “Nexo piel” in the show “Transitando” for Nike Argentina, based on the concept that shoes working as an intelligent skin can change shape to adapt to different topographies.
She has won many national and international contests as a part of interdisciplinary teams of architecture and landscape, developing her designs in urban equipment.

Her urban elements equip the streets, piazzas and public spaces of Buenos Aires, Rosario, Neuquen, New York City, Chicago, Durham, Washington DC, Miami, Canary Islands, Almeria, Lisbon and Bangkok, and were exhibited in Argentina and in international shows such as Construmat 2003 in Spain, off Feria in Milán, “Light and Building” in Frankfurt 2004 and the ICFF in New York 2003, 2004, and 2005. She has participated in different forums presenting her current research on “Places, Social Spaces and Support for Community Uses. Useful Topographies and the Culture of the Non-object”.
She is currently lecturing at Universidad de Palermo, Argentina, on “Urban Elements and Community Equipment” (original course), and is a Post-Graduate Professor since this year at Universidad Torcuato  Di Tella, in Buenos Aires, on the same subject.
